GENEVA (ILO News) – On 6 June 2024, Denmark deposited the instrument of ratification of the Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No. 190), with the Director-General of the ILO, Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo.

At the ratification ceremony held at the ILO headquarters, Ms Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen, the Minister for Employment, stated: Denmark applauds the adoption of the first international instrument to combat violence and harassment in the world of work. I am therefore particularly pleased that Denmark today can hand over the ratification instrument to Convention 190 during my visit here at the International Labour Conference. This ratification reaffirms Denmark’s strong support for ILO values and its normative system.  With our Danish model, where wage and working conditions are regulated through collective agreements and where most benefit from good working environment at the workplace, Denmark has a good starting point for fulfilling the convention. The Danish social partners have unanimously recommended the ratification of Convention 190 and hereby shown their strong commitment to prevent and eliminate violence and harassment at the workplace in Denmark.”

Mr. Gilbert Houngbo: “welcomed the ratification of this landmark instrument by Denmark which demonstrates its ongoing commitment to Social Justice and the ILO normative system. By ratifying Convention No. 190, Denmark is reaffirming its commitment to creating a world of work free from violence and harassment, based on dignity, equality, and respect for all so that no one is left behind. "

Convention No. 190 is the first international labour standard to address violence and harassment in the world of work comprehensively and affirms the fundamental right of individuals to a workplace free from violence and harassment. Together with Recommendation No. 206, it establishes a framework for action, and a unique opportunity to shape a future of work based on dignity and respect.
