KoSEA is a public organization that was established in December 2010 and is affiliated with the Ministry of Employment and Labor of Korea. KoSEA supports the stable growth of social enterprises and fosters a healthy social economy ecosystem, working with social economy entities, including social enterprises and cooperatives, to build a hopeful society. The ILO has recently held an Interview with Hyun-Gon Jung, President of KoSEA. In addition more recently the ILO and the International Training Center of the ILO made two new modules on the SSE available in Korean.
Since 2023, KoSEA has been translating key reports from international organizations into Korean to promote the social and solidarity economy (SSE) ecosystem in Korea. The translation of ILO publications is part of these efforts, aimed at raising awareness and expanding the knowledge base for SSE entities in Korea through the collaborative efforts of the ILO and KoSEA.
These reports will serve as valuable reference materials for key stakeholders in Korea's social and solidarity economy. The translated reports are accessible to anyone interested through the ILO topical pages on cooperatives and the social and solidarity economy and the KoSEA website. A KoSEA official expressed positive outlook, stating that "Through this translation work, experts in the fields of cooperatives and the social economy in Korea will have easier access to international research and case studies, enabling more effective policy formulation and implementation."
KoSEA plans to continue its translation work on key reports in 2024 to promote cooperatives and the wider SSE toward advancing sustainable development.
