Launch of the Strategy for the Promotion of Formalization in Latin America and the Caribbean
The ILO's Formalisation Strategy for Latin America and the Caribbean (FORLAC 2.0) seeks to address the challenge of labour informality in the region, where half of the labour force does not have access to decent jobs. This strategy, based on ILO Recommendation 204, provides a comprehensive policy framework with a gender equality approach, aimed at promoting the transition to the formal economy through productive development, social protection and the fulfilment of labour rights.
FORLAC 2.0 will be implemented between 2024 and 2030, with the objective of structuring and strengthening the ILO's integrated response to achieve decent work and social justice through the creation of formal jobs and the development of inclusive and sustainable policies.
The launch of FORLAC 2.0 will take place in a virtual event on 18 July 2024, addressed to ILO constituents, public and private entities, and other relevant stakeholders. This event will present the strategy and its implementation plan for 2024-2025, aiming for participants to use FORLAC 2.0 as a reference to design effective formalisation policies. Various organisations and experts are expected to participate and discuss the importance of the transition to the formal economy, and a Tripartite Advisory Committee will be established to oversee and guide the implementation of the strategy.
