Guinea has been a member of the International Labour Organization since 1959. Today, the country has ratified nine of the ILO’s Fundamental Conventions and receives technical support from the ILO to implement the decent work agenda. These include promoting and implementing fundamental principles and rights at work, strengthening the governance of labour migration, skills development and employability, expanding social protection, and much more. The creation of productive and decent jobs is a priority for the Guinean government as set out in the formulation and implementation of its Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP). ILO activities in the country are coordinated by the ILO Decent Work Team for West Africa and Country Office for Senegal, Cabo Verde, the Gambia, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau, based in Dakar.
